THE PECULIARITIES OF THE FORMATION OF VASIL BYKOV’S «WAR» STORY

Abstract

The theme of Great Patriotic War occupies a leading place in V. Bykov’s creative work and is implemented in the genre of the so called «war» story. Honour, conscience, faithfulness to one’s duty are the problems that come into the author’s view. One of the main author’s themes is the theme of heroism. The writer is not so much interested in its external manifestations, as in the ways people come to the idea of self-sacrifice. The distinctive peculiarity of the «war» story is the fact that a man, who happens to be in the centre of attention, finds himself in an extreme situation, where he has to make his choice. With the help of his works V. Bykov has introduced common to all mankind moral problems into the national literature, enhancing their depth and acuteness. The writer supports the humanistic idea that the formation of the democratic society will bring an end to the numerous tragedies in the people’s history.
