Abstract
The article deals with the questions of planning and building main square inPolotsk in 18lh – the beginning of 19th centuries. Having analysed the findings of archeological excavations in Polotsk, planning concepts and other written sources of information, the authors of the article have come to the conclusion that the development of the main square of Polotsk of that period was carried out under the project of a regular redevelopment by I. Siegfrieden. The square ensemble can be ranked among the best works of town-planning art in Bela-rus thanks to its artistic and architectural merits.
