Abstract

The paper deals with the issues of the risk assessment of emergencies at oil and petroleum products storage facilities that can lead to fires and explosions on the example of oil refineries of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The analysis of statistical data on fires in tanks in the petrochemical and oil refining industry is carried out. The causes and conditions of the accidents emergence, typical consequences, damaging factors, and basic methods for risk assessment are analyzed. The necessity of prediction and assessment of the accidents consequences is justified as well as measures to reduce the risk of accidents are proposed in the paper.
