TНЕ СOMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CROSS-DOMED UNIATE TEMPLES OF VITEBSK PROVINCE IN THE 2nd HALF OF THE XVIII CENTURY

Abstract
The stylistic analysis of known and newly opened Uniate temples of Vitebsk and its region revealed due to archival researches a link between them in space-planning and architectural and plastic decisions. The Church of Epiphany, the Assumption Cathedral of basilian friary, the Sacred-Spiritual Church of basilian nunnery in Vitebsk and the Church of Assumption in Ushachi – all these constructions belong to cross-domed basilian type of temples with two-tower composition of the main facade. The article states the hypothesis of existence in the second half of the XVIII century in the territory of the Vitebsk province of a certain typological form of the monastic temple. There is one more link in a chain of development of cross-domed Uniate temples in Belarus. The architectural school which had in its basis the Iosif Fontana’s developed principles defined the development of cathedral basilian and urban Uniate churches towards merging with West-European baroque traditions in space-planning structure. At the beginning of the XIX century this category of monuments was reconstructed in style classicism.
