Abstract
One of the largest industrial and cultural centers of the Republic of Belarus – Novopolotsk is considered. Its architectural uniqueness is shown, which consists in the short historical period of the development of the city (founded n 1958) and large (in social, economic and geographic perspective) scale of Novopolotsk architectural system. Residential areas were built along the floodplain of the river Western Dvina away from industries with sanitary zone of 4.5 km. The city faced the problem of organization of the city centre because of a linear structure in plan and development only in the south-east direction.
