Abstract

There are more than 1,500 tanks in operation in Belarus. The most common type is a vertical steel tank. Acts of technical condition show that a regulatory lifetime excess of vertical steel tanks contributes to the emer-gence and progressive development of corrosion defects in construction. The presence of corrosion assessment criteria allow to assess the danger of damage at early stages of defect. Thus, the priority in ensuring the safe operation of vertical steel tanks at the Belarusian enterprises is to develop methods for assessing corrosion damage on the basis of diagnostic testing of tanks. This technique will allow to estimate the “priority” of the defect and choose the optimal method of repair. At the same time, this technique of risk assessment will allow to support the tank to be operable without increasing the cost of its maintenance.
