Abstract
The article examines the semi-fictional book by the British writer and medical worker F. Farmborough ‘With the Armies of the Tsar. A Nurse at the Russian Front 1914 – 1918’. Special attention is paid to the fragments related to the author’s stay at the territory of modern Belarus at the end of 1915 and the beginning of 1916. The themes of such passages are determined: stories about fortification and the organization of defense in the vicinity of Brest and Grodno, the retreat of the Russian army, life in front-line Minsk, the fate of refugees, and the professional duties of doctors.
