BASIC ARTISTIC METHODS OF DEPICTING THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR IN SHORT STORIES “A HORSEMAN IN THE SKY” BY A. BIERCE AND “THE THREE HUNDRED” BY W. MORROW

Abstract
The article deals with the main characteristic features and antimilitary tendencies in the portraying the events of the American Civil War in American literature of the second part of the nineteenth century. The works of A. Bierce ”A Horseman in the Sky” and W. Morrow “The Three Hundred” draw attention to the horrors of war, presenting the realistic, original, critical, ironic vision and depiction of a man at war. The specific authors’ view on tragic military events in the USA of 1861-1865 is studied. The military short story of the writers investigate the nature of human fear, the experience of the soldier shaken by fratricidal war, focusing attention on the fact that war and death are inseparable.
