CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS IN CHARLES DICKENS’ LITERARY WORKS

Abstract
Some famous British Christmas traditions are considered in the article. The research is based on Charles Dickens’ literary works concerned with Christmas celebrations. A general review of traditions is presented. A detailed description is given to such traditions as Christmas dinner, carols, dances, games and ghost stories. Holly, ivy and mistletoe are shown as main decorations; the meaning of these symbols is explained. Christmas morals are considered the main motive in Dickens’ prose.
