MORPHEMIC DERIVATION AS ONE OF THE WAYS OF THE NOMINATION OF VEHICLES (ON THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH AND FRENCH LANGUAGES)

Abstract
The proposed article deals with the English and French names of vehicles, selected from the English dictionary "Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary" (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and the dictionary of the French language "Le Robert" (Paris, 2012). Morphemic derivation is considered within the framework of the onomasiological approach as one of important ways of nomination. The purpose of this study is to present the basic models of morphemic derivation that are used in the nomination of vehicles in the studied languages, and to establish a quantitative correlation of models of morphemic derivation in English and French.The analysis of the selected vocabulary led to the conclusion that general language models of morphemic derivation, such as prefixation, suffixation, prefix-suffixation, zero suffixation, compound word formation, abbreviation and some others, are used in the nomination of vehicles in English and French. The specificity of this way of nominating vehicles in the languages lies in the models of their implementation and their quantitative ratio.
