THE HORATIAN MOTIVES IN THE EZRA POUND’S WORKS

Abstract

The article deals with the Horatian motives in the works by the American poet Ezra Pound (1885–1972), one of the most considerable poets and critics of the twentieth century, the founders of the English and American modernism. In the Ezra Pound’s works the Horatian motives are a constantly present reflective background, giving the modernist text extraordinary depth. For the artist with his aesthetic ideas about the poet – the continuer of the world literary tradition and, moreover, the medium uniting the scattered experience of the centuries, the tradition of Horace is important as a way of combining personal and general cultural experience in the works.
