THE MOTIVE OF GUILT IN G. GRASS’S NOVEL "CRABWALK"

Abstract
The analysis of the ideological and artistic originality of G.Grass based on the "Crabwalk" (2002) novel is carried out. The tragedy of the German ship "Wilhelm Gustloff" is in the center of the story. The subject of research is the motive of guilt, which determines the development of the plot and the system of characters. There are repetitive images and motives (family image, motive of guilt, motive of trauma) and authorial techniques (through character, numerical symbolism) in the novel. The novella connects several subject lines in different space-time planes, thanks to which the author creates a complex narrative construction similar to the chronicle-documentary narration.
