ANALYTICAL THOUGHT ABOUT THE FIRST WORLD WAR IN RYHOR MURASHKA’S SHORT STORIES

Abstract
The article examines the works ‘At Their Home’, ‘Winchester’, ‘Buried Umbilical Cord’, ‘In the Trenches’ by R. Murashka (1902–1944). They are selected according to one of the thematic features: the inclusive embodiment of the First World War. The events of 1914 – 18 are introduced into the plot by the narrator, who laconically describes the situation, summarises the characters’ experience or introduces their direct speech. The narrator does not strive to delve into the numerous circumstances of everyday life but offers an analytical reflection on the experience. The conclusions drawn from the characters’ reflection on the main existential questions caused by the total war prevail. At the same time, the author turns to the adventurous and the taboo emphasizing the multifaceted nature of the phenomenon under consideration.
