Abstract
The article examines the genesis of the concepts of general/particular in the chain of the sequence of the cognitive process development, conditioned by the universal properties of human psyche. The development of these concepts is traced on the way from the result of the simplest mental operation on distinguishing objects in the surrounding reality, and, through the development of language and thinking, to the status of one of the basic ontological oppositions. It is shown that by analyzing various manifestations of culture, including language, it is possible to identify a tendency to different types of thinking among residents of geographically opposite regions.
