SCANDINAVIAN MYTHOLOGICAL-FANTASTIC BALLADS: HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL ASPECTS

Abstract
The analysis of some peculiarities of the historical, economic and cultural development of Scandinavia (first of all Sweden) is given. It is they that are the reason for the fact that according to the number of mythological and fantastic plots Scandinavian ballad heritage has no match in other European regions. Among such peculiarities, it is necessary to mention, first of all, the specificity of the spreading of Christianity and the retention of the mythological outlook and old beliefs during the period of ballad flourishing, as well as the uniqueness of the nature and the landscape of the region. The article touches upon the issue of some terminological differences in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Anglo-Scottish traditions. The own translation of one of “naturmytiska visor” from the Swedish language with a short history and the necessary comment to it is given here as an example of a mythological-fantastic ballad.
