FEATURES OF A NATIVE NARRATIVE IN EARLY N. HAWTHORNE’S WORKS

Abstract
The article deals with some characteristic features of a native narrative in N. Hawthorne’s short works, nature description and portrayal of Indians in particular. N. Hawthorne as many other american romantic writers depicted diverse nature of his native land, admiring its beaty and naturalness. It is stated that N. Hawthorne had different views on Indians and their heritage in various periods of his creative work. In his early stories one can notice a sceptic attitude to romantization of Indian themes, but in works of later pe-riod there are themes of idealization of natural life and Indians as people close to it. In conclusion the author states that besides historical themes there are other, characteristic of a native narrative prose features in N. Hawthorne’s short works.
