THE PECULIARITIES OF RYTHMIC ORGANIZATION OF A LITERARY TEXT READ IN GERMAN

Abstract
The peculiarities of rythmic organization of literary text read in German are researched. The main elements of rhythm are sequences of stressed and unstressed syllables. German word stress is mainly dynamic, while the stressed and the unstressed syllables appreciably differ in the relative length of their vowel components. Some authors suppose that the stressed syllables in German are longer than the unstressed ones. Hence, German stress appears to be of a double, dynamic and musical nature. The contrast between the stressed and the unstressed syllables results in the division of a phrase into accent groups. The number of accent groups equals the number of stressed syllables. The stressed syllable is the highest point of the rhythm group, adjoined by the unstressed syllables. The rhythm of speech is formed by a set of prosodic means, and is influenced by syntax of the phrase, and by its lexical and semantic content.
