Abstract

The understanding peculiarities of the problem of a man and a civilization in W. Golding’s story “Lord of the Flies” are considered in the article. The attention is paid to the fact that the characters of this work represent society in a miniature. Golding emphasizes that the person is inclined to the destruction of both his own soul, and the world around created by him as a result of centuries-old work. According to W. Golding, selfdamage of the personality happens currently with the destructions of humane foundations of society, and then with the destruction of material values of the earth as people and their society can easily come down to barbarity under certain conditions. In this story the author showed experiment of a civilization’s cruelty which is transferred to the children’s consciousness.
