THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE PAST AND MODERN WORLD VIEW IN HAROLD PINTER’S DRAMA

Abstract
The article deals with the understanding of the past in Harold Pinter’s dramas. Both early and late plays are analyzed in terms of author’s political views. The author of the article argues that Harold Pinter’s plays are a combination of elements of the theatre of the absurd, comedies of menace and metaphysical theatre with author’s irreconcilable attitude to reflect the modern state of affairs. Harold Pinter emphasizes the need to maintain the subtle balance of the past, present and future and calls on people to escape from the state of oppression and fear.
