BOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY OF THE JESUIT ACADEMY IN POLOTSK IN THE RARE BOOK DEPARTMENT OF THE STATE MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF RELIGION

Abstract
The article is devoted to books from the library of the Jesuit Academy in Polotsk, which revealed in the Rare Book Department of the State Museum of the History of Religion in St. Petersburg. The article attempts to reconstruct the route for the transfer of these books from Polotsk to St. Petersburg, as well as to explain the motives and goals of Russian officials of The Department for the Spiritual Affairs of Foreign Confessions, who initiated this movement, registered books and determined their future. The books of the Polotsk Jesuits are considered in the context of the implementation of the confessional policy of the Russian Empire in relation to the Roman Catholic Church - as one of the possible elements in creating a flexible model of cooperation between the central government and subjects of the Catholic confession. In addition to the full list of books, the article also contains information about the established owners of some of them.
