INTERPRETATION OF THE MYTH OF THE ATREIDES IN THE NOVEL BY J. SAINT “ELEKTRA”

Abstract
The study examines the novel “Elektra” (2022) by British author Jennifer Saint (b. March 18, 1983), which is a reconstruction of the myth of the Atreides. The polyphonic structure of the work is analyzed, where the main heroines – Clytemnestra, Elektra, and Cassandra – are contrasted through the principle of antithesis, embodying the female roles of the avenging mother, the obsessive daughter, and the rejected prophetess. It is argued that Jennifer Saint revisits the myth of the Atreides by focusing on the images of female characters and analyzing their internal conflicts. Special attention is given to the deconstruction of the motive of revenge: Clytemnestra seeks vengeance for the sacrifice of Iphigenia, Elektra idealizes her father while silencing his crime, and Cassandra foresees tragedy but is doomed to disbelief.
