Abstract
The article studies the influence of extra-linguistic and linguistic factors on the composition of the lexicosemantic group (hereinafter – LSG) of destruction verbs in the English language of the Middle English period. The article considers the main reasons that led to changes in the composition of the LSG of destruction verbs of the Middle English language. Examples of destruction verbs borrowed in the Middle English period are given, the results of their interaction with the native vocabulary are investigated, which is expressed in the phenomenon of paired synonymy, the loss of native words, and various kinds of semantic changes. Conclusions are made about changes in the etymological composition of the LSG of destruction verbs, semantic and stylistic differentiation of verbs, a decrease in use of internal ways of vocabulary enrichment.
