Abstract

A statistical review of the study of the Vitebsk region as a crash site during the Great Patriotic War (1941 – 1944) is presented. It was possible to establish the date, type of aircraft, belonging to the regiment, the crash site with reference to the locality and coordinates, as well as the administrative district (today), which allowed creating an appropriate database. The main source, in addition to the data of aviation archeology, was the materials of the funds of the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus. Based on the available information and preliminary studies, the author makes an assumption that there are at least 300 places of aircraft crashes during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the Vitebsk region.
