WOMEN’S CHARACTERS IN N. HAWTHORNE’S TALES

Abstract
The article deals with the most frequently occuring women’s characters in N. Hawthorne’s tales. The author emphasizes the influence which women surrounding the writer exerted on his artistic development and creation of certain female characters during various periods of his life. It is attempted to classify women in his stories according to their role. Special emphasis is put on women who can help men to redeem their fault with love and mercy. Taking into consideration the analyzed material it is concluded what are the most valuable women’s qualities of character in writer’s opinion.
