ABOUT BIBLICAL SYMBOLS IN DINO BUZZATI’S NOVEL “THE DESERT OF THE TARTARS”

Abstract

The article is devoted to the research of interpretative features and the role of biblical symbols in the novel of the Italian author of the first half of the 20th century Dino Buzzati. The novel “The desert of the Tartars” (“Il Deserto dei tartari”) is of particular interest in terms of reading in connection with a multi-faceted interpretation of images and symbols used by the author on the pages of his work. Despite the denial of transcendental sense and values beyond the human personality, whether God or the achievements of scientific and technological advance or state, Dino Buzzati appears to us as a great humanist and wise philosopher of his time. As for the genre and stylistic aspect “The desert of the Tartars” is treated as a novel-parable, and, as in any parable, the text of the novel is replete with biblical allusions, symbols and images.
