V.F. ODOEVSKY’S “PRACTICAL-PHILOSOPHICAL” FANTASTIC

Abstract
Some theoretical aspects of the evolution of the romantic fantastic during 1820 – 1840 are revealed with regard to V.F. Odoevsky’s works. The model of the development of the fantastic during this period is followed by the analysis of the romantic fantastic works. The author of the article proposes the theory of “evolutionary waves” as a basis for this model. Practical-philosophical orientation as a special component of V.F. Odoevsky’s works is pointed out. The analysis of all the periods of the romantic’s creative work makes it possible to come to the logical conclusion that it is unreasonable to reckon him among sci-fi writers. V.F. Odoevsky creates fantastic narratives conditionally labeled as romantic fantastic in the cycle “Motley fairy-tales”. The writer draws together real and miraculous worlds and states their organic unity in his final period of writing. V.F. Odoevsky’s experiments with utopian genre result in the creation of its special kind – “scientific utopia”.
