THE QUESTION OF ART IN RICHARD ALDINGTON’S CREATIVITY

Abstract
Richard Aldington’s “Death of a Hero” novel, and his 1930’s critiques are analyzed in order to identify the aesthetic views of the writer. The evolution of the outlook of the writer from the modernist current of imagism to the realistic depiction of reality is traced. The major issues of Richard Aldington with James Joyce, T.C. Eliot, E. Pound, D.G. Lawrence concerning the views on the aim and the purpose of art are analysed. Pleading from a position of an advocate of realistic art, Aldington defended the connection between art and reality, rejecting the extremes of modern art, its inhumane tendencies.
