SPATIOTEMPORAL ORGANIZATION OF THE NOVEL “TRISTANO DIES” BY ANTONIO TABUCCHI

Abstract
The categories of time and space are getting special significance in the fiction of the XX – XXI centuries and serve as fundamental structural and thematic components. Their analysis enables to reveal the author’s message. The article deals with the specific features of the spatiotemporal organization of the novel “Tristano Dies”, written by the contemporary Italian author Antonio Tabucchi. The novel’s subject area – the meaning of life and death – enables the author to set up the relations between narrating time and space and these of human existence in general. Special attention is paid to the analysis of two main chronotopes, a chronotope of life and a chronotope of death, due to which the meanings of the novel are revealed. This novel, written according to the postmodern principles, reflects the contemporary human need for spiritual values and truth.
