Abstract

The paper discusses different editions of the History of American Literature that have been recently published in the UK, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and the USA. For all the similarities in the choice of key figures of the literary process and major works that reflected leading tendencies in US literature the books under analysis demonstrate variability of approaches to the very concept of creating a literary history and impossibility of producing the only “correct” history.
