THE PROBLEM OF IDENTITY IN D. RICHARDSON’S NOVELS «POINTED ROOFS» AND «BACKWATER»

Abstract
This article examines the theme of the search for identity in the works of Dorothy Richardson – a prominent British novelist of the first half of the 20th century – within the context of British modernist literature and with regard to the author's artistic principles. An analysis of several novels from Richardson’s «Pilgrimage» cycle leads to the conclusion that the motif of the individual’s search for the self is central to her work.
