MORAL AND ETHICAL DILEMMAS IN THE CONTEMPORARY ECO-NOVEL (BASED ON ANGLOPHONE AUTHORS’ WORKS)

Abstract
Based on the works of M. Atwood, C. McCarthy, K. S. Robinson, J. Offill, and B. Kingsolver, who reflect on the consequences of the compromises people are willing to make for survival at the current stage of their existence, it is shown that ecological prose underscores the crisis of the anthropocentric paradigm and forms modes of moral conscious-ness based on ideas of environmental responsibility and coevolution. It has been established that moral and ethical di-lemmas in these works become tools for criticizing modern civilization, where scientific and technological development outpaces the moral and philosophical understanding of its consequences. Particular attention is paid to how the ecolog-ical novel genre combines artistic imagery with scientific knowledge, philosophical reflection, and psychological depth, thereby allowing humanity to contemplate possible variants of its future in the safe space of art.
