REFLECTION OF THE BAROQUE WORLD VIEW IN UMBERTO ECO’S NOVELS

Abstract
The article touches upon the problem of the reception of basic world view principles in six novels of Umberto Eco, the most significant representative of which is “The Island of the Day Before”, because it contains the autor’s intention to reconstruct the way of thinking dominated in the cultural ambient of the XVIIth century. Analysis of ideas and subject matter of the compositions reveals convergence of the aesthetic of postmodernism and baroque, manifesting in the superiority of imagination, wit and ironical quotation, striking subjectivism, use of the principle of non-selection, realativistic approach towards cultural values, especially towards the problem of the search for truth. This characteristics correlate in the paradoxical mode with the assertion of the firmness of moral guidelines in the spiritual life of the individual. There were exposed some stylistic convergences, such as complexity of structure and aspiration for the synthesis of various cultural codes. As a result the author of the article alleges the legitimacy to attribute Umberto Eco’s novels to neobaroque literature.
