Abstract
Under certain conditions, cracks in the metal can heal (reduce their volume), which leads to an improvement in the performance characteristics of the material. The possible result of the healing of cracks during the restoration of the functional state of machine parts within the framework of the model of the structural-diffusion mechanism is considered. When diffusing along grain boundaries, the activation energy of chromium diffusion is less than for vacancies; the rate of crack healing is mainly determined by the value and change in the activation energy of diffusion of Cr atoms. An increase in the annealing temperature contributes to an increase in the crack healing rate.
