EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: TO THE PROBLEM OF THE OPERATIONALIZATION OF THE NOTION IN THE CONTEXT OF EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATIONS

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to construct meaningful concretization of the notion of "emotional intelligence" through its correlation with social intelligence and character, i. e., to determine the nature (essence) of emotional intelligence in terms of abilities and personality traits paradigms. Emotional intelligence as measured by EmIn questionnaire was put into correspondence with both personality traits (Big 5 questionnairy and Heymans Personality test) and social intelligence («Social intelligence» test by M. Sallivan and J. Guildford). Correlations calculated for two different samples (N = 51 (10% males), 2nd year students of the faculty of social and pedagogical technologies, and N = 113 (19% males), 3rd year students of the Faculty of Psychology) show that in several cases there are some connections between the indicators of emotional intelligence with both the social intelligence (ability paradigm), and with the character (traits paradigm). Low values of the correlation coefficients and the instability of relations obtained from sample to sample allow us to conclude about the independence of such construct as the emotional intelligence and its special place in the list of personality traits.
