“LIFE FOR THE SAKE OF SCIENCE” (BASED ON D. OVSIANIKO-KULIKOVSKI’S LIFE AND CREATIVITY)

Abstract

The article aims to thoroughly analyze the life and the main stages of research activities of D. Ovsianiko- Kulikovski, an outstanding Ukrainian scientist. Special attention is paid to his multinational origin as well as to his childhood and adolescence that influenced formation of his views and his formation as a scientist. The author characterizes the range of his scientific interests and chronologically shows research thereof in such fields as Indology, philology and psychology. The article also highlights the scientist’s main works and shows the exclusive role played by A. Potebnia, a scientist from Kharkov, in D. Ovsianiko-Kulikovski’s life and creativity. The author accentuates the research of psychological issues of nations’ development as well as the fact that the scientist considered national issues to be very important. The article has proved that he became an outstanding figure in the history of Pan-Slavic civilizational development.
