Abstract
The article is subject to analysis of the question of understanding death on the basis of an analysis of the biblical texts. Citing quotations from Scripture describes basic ideas and suggestions on this problem. This article shows the differences between the approaches to the understanding of the physical death and the afterlife in the Old and New Testaments. It offers a point of view of different denominations, as well as the Fathers of the Church on this issue.
