TRANSFORMATION IN THE GEOPOLITICAL ORIENTATION IN THE EARLY MEDIEVAL BELARUSSION SOCIAL AND POLITICAL THOUGTH

Abstract
This article discusses the process of grasping by Eastern European medieval community its civilizational uniqueness during the eleventh – fifteenth centuries. It is traced the fusion of confessional affiliation and ethnic characteristics, which causes the appearance in this period the phenomenon of “medieval nationalism”. It was examined the connection of the development of this phenomenon with the change of the geopolitical structure, when the axis north – South changed to the West – East. After the disappearance of the Kieran Rus’, we may talk about the birth of a certain separate political unit that consciously distinguished themselves from the surrounding communities through on a separate language and their own faith. This phenomenon can be considered as one of the elements of the legacy of the Kieran Rus to their offspring. The Old Russian oecumene collision, which occurred after Mongol invasion and devastation of Kiev, put forward in the first place and the ethnic unity overshadowed the canonical differences. Thus, “the Russian people” became very close to the image of a pseudo-nation.
