HISTORICAL AND LEGAL BACKGROUND OF THE CODIFICATION OF CIVIL LAW OF FRANCE

Abstract
The article discusses the historical and legal prerequisites for the codification of French civil law in the 2nd half of the 18th - early 19th centuries The general characteristic of French law and its sources is given. The factors that have a significant impact on the development of civil law are considered. The system of state power, the church, the structure of society are analyzed. All the most important changes regarding the state system are considered. Special attention is paid to the works of famous French enlighteners, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Rousseau. The influence of these works on the development of law and the state is determined. A preliminary and brief review of codification in the field of civil law is made. Based on the results of the study, conclusions are drawn regarding the topic under consideration.
