CLASSIFICATION OF VALUE STREAM MAPPING SYMBOLS

Abstract

Within the process of production optimization and its inefficient sectors isolation lean manufacturing techniques are increasingly being used, including the construction of a value stream map. Since there are many sources for interpreting the symbols of the value stream map, which most often causes misunderstanding of the working team, thereby reducing the quality of the work under construction, it becomes necessary to systematize the symbols for building the value stream map. In this article the developed classification of symbols used to build a map of the value stream is presented. The symbols used in constructing the value stream map are divided into five main groups: symbols of creation process of the value stream map, symbols of the mapping participants, symbols of the flowing streams, traffic symbols in the VSM, common VSM symbols. The classification is based on the principles of the process approach to description and analysis of the organization.
