EXEGESIS OF THE FRENCH CIVIL CODE OF 1804

Abstract
The period of exegesis, or interpretation, of the most famous in the history of the act codified civil law – the French Civil Code of 1804 is considered. French sources related to the first half of the XIX century, which have not previously been translated into Russian and have not been available for the study of a wide range of researchers are emphasised. The first experience of the interpretation of the Civil Code remained outside the majority of research works of foreign authors and has never been the object of comprehensive research of Russian scientists. The methods of interpretation of the Civil Code, as well as comments provided some of its provisions are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the work of French researchers, which contain an indication of the most significant errors codified act and suggested remedies. The most significant advantages of the Code, the value of its provisions relating to property, persons, the status of women in marriage, as well as general questions about the nature and origin of the law are shown.
