INTELLECTUAL POTENTIAL OF A REGION AS ITS COMPETITIVENESS FACTOR

Abstract
Approaches to the definition of the category “competitiveness of the region” and its essence are presented. The factors defining competitiveness of the region, and technique of its assessment are considered. Such factor of strengthening of competitiveness of the region in the conditions of transition to economy of knowledge as intellectual potential are singled out. The author defines the essence of the category “intellectual potential of the region” and its components in the context of which it is recommended to carry out an assessment. The results of a complex assessment of the level of intellectual potential in the regions of Belarus are given. The results of assessing competitiveness of the Belarusian regions on the basis of comparing their rating against a number of factors are presented. The role of the intellectual potential of a region in strengthening its competitiveness by comparing figures in the regions of Belarus on the level of their intellectual potential and competitiveness is substantiated.
