Abstract

The article is devoted to the economic development of the sports industry in the Republic of Belarus. Special attention is given to the approaches to development of professional sport in Europe and the USA. Advantages and disadvantages of the existing models of professional sports are marked. The comparative analysis of American, European and Belarusian models of professional and commercial sports by a number of basic criteria is made: professional sports, the main principle of competition, the specifics of management, legal basis, and the attitude of the state, especially financing, forms of professional teams ownership, the system of selection of sportsmen, as well as the degree of internationalization of professional sports. The results obtained show great differences between the model of professional sports in the Republic of Belarus from existing models in the USA and Europe.
