INTENSIVE AGRICULTURE AS A FACTOR OF THE AMPLIFICATION OF EXTERNALITIES

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of externalities. As the scale of production and worsening of the environmental problems is rising, the problem of externalities becomes more and more urgent nowadays. In the course of economic activity there is a constant impact on the environment, people, and various objects, etc. The occurrence of externalities is associated with these impacts. In the most general terms, they can be defined as the uncompensated impact (positive or negative) of the one side on the other. The article focuses on the analysis of the negative externalities that have been observed as a result of intensive agriculture. There is also the charac-teristic of intensive agriculture, showing its advantages and disadvantages. The necessity of the reconsideration of the system of management, in order to move to more sophisticated systems in terms of the environment, health and humanity, is shown.
