Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of Italian-Belarusian cultural ties. After the abolition of the Society of Jesus in 1773, many Jesuits of Italian origin came to Belarus. They taught various disciplines in Jesuit educational institutions of Polotsk, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Orsha, Chechersk. The study allowed the author to say that the students in Polotsk acquaint actively with the treasures of Italian culture and literature: the plays based on the works of Italian writers were put on the stage in the dormitory theater in the original language, in the Polotsk Jesuit Academy the students taught Italian and read works written by Italian authors at the lessons. In the Polotsk printing house, in addition to books of religious content in Italian, also was published the first ten songs of the poem “Jerusalem Liberated” by T. Tasso translated in Polish by P. Kochanowski.
