Abstract

The article deals the discussion about the participation of military priests in the political life of the state, which unfolded at the front and the Second All-Russian Congress of the military and naval clergy in 1917. The military clergy supported the change of authority in Russia. It has been established that the front-line clergy spoke in favor of a non-partisan priest (some with reservations about the right of the priest, as a citizen, to participate in state building). However, the discussion that took place at the All-Russian Congress of the Military and Naval Clergy in Mogilev ended with the adoption of a decision on the right of every priest to join political parties, especially in the context of the upcoming elections to the Constituent Assembly. Despite this, some of the delegates recognized the voting results as illegitimate and the decision unacceptable. The article also analyzes the discussion related to the elections to the Constituent Assembly.
