UNDERSTANDING OF FORCED MIGRATION IN THE SETTLEMENT OF C. HEIN

Abstract
Fictional peculiarity of C. Hein’s historical prose on the example of the novel ‘Settlement’ (Landnahme) is studied. The main fictional conflict is connected with the problem of forced migration (as a historical, national and cross cultural phenomenon) which is analysed in the context of three crucial events in German history after 1945. Comprehension of the refugees’ state in connection with the opposition of ‘friend’ and ‘foe’ enables C. Hein to raise complicated human questions, to find some connections between the past and the present. The novel is created in the realistic manner. The narrative structure combines five short stories. It provides the effect of credibility and has a symbolic meaning. Recurrent motifs, images and literary principles allow the writer to widen novel fictional space on the narrative and notional levels.
