Abstract

The article is dedicated to the comparative research of deverbal names of person in the Belarusian and German languages using contemporary lexicographic sources. Discrepancies in semantization of deverbal names of person were discovered in translation dictionaries. Cases are described, when substantives, which mean a person and a subject, are presented there with more narrow semantics (only as names of a person or of a subject), and those, which signify only a person or a subject – with a wider meaning (both of a person and a subject). Also special aspects of functioning of deverbal names of person of the English origin in the Belarusian and German languages are considered, examples of incomplete and inaccurate translation of deverbal agentives from German into Belarusian are given. The practical importance of the research’s results is connected with the possibility of their application in series of lectures on contrastive linguistics, in teaching Belarusian and German as foreign languages, as well as for correction of bilingual dictionaries.
