THE PERCEPTION OF THE IMAGE OF PATROCLUS IN NOVEL ‘THE SONG OF ACHILLES’ BY M. MILLER

Abstract
The novel ‘The Song of Achilles’ (2011) by American writer Madeline Miller (born July 24, 1978), which is a reconstruction of the mythological story of Patroclus and Achilles, is considered. The image of Patroclus in ancient sources such as Homer’s ‘Iliad’ and Apollodorus ‘Mythological Library’ is analyzed, as well as his perception in M. Mil-ler’s work. It is substantiated that Miller’s version of the mythological story of Patroclus and Achilles is a reconstruction of a personal history within the myth, interpreted with the least amount of free ‘reification’.
