Abstract

The article considers common and specific characteristics of parallel syntactic constructions in Russian and English texts of public speeches on socio-economic topics. The results of the research demonstrate that syntactic parallelism is used more often in English texts of public speeches in order to arrange paragraphs, compound and simple sentences while in Russian texts it is more widely used to organize homogeneous parts of sentences. The combination of parallelism with other types of syntactic stylistic devices such as anaphora, epiphora, anadiplosis is typical both for Russian and English texts. The chains of parallel-arranged elements are longer in English speeches. The usage of several lines of parallel constructions in direct succession is typical only for English speaking orators.
