THE ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION OF ST. EUPHROSYNE OF POLOTSK IN THE BELARUSIAN PROSE OF THE XX-XXI CENTURIES

Abstract

The study of artistic interpretation of historical events and personalities associated with the Belarusian reality does not lose its relevance at present and attracts the attention of modern literary critics. When playing back the events of the past authors certainly rely on historical science. However, fiction also plays an important role in such cases. Modern Belarusian writers conceptual-historically interpret the personality of St. Euphrosy-ne of Polotsk but tend to keep to the prototype presented in «Life of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk». This article is devoted to the study of the artistic image Euphrosyne of Polotsk in Belarusian historical prose of XX-XXI centu-ries. It is alleged that the writer Olga Ipatova and Valentina Kovtun, in their own way interpret the image, pro-vide a more or less plausible when compared with the historical prototype.
